Our New Mountain Range

The scenery outside our windows has changed.  We now have mountains of snow where flat prairie used to be. If I squint, they look a little like the rugged peaks I was so accustomed to seeing on the horizon before we moved.  Willow loves to play in the snow, leaping over these monoliths in pursuit of her ball like a show horse.

Our friend, who is also our landlord until the end of the month, kindly dug us out with his backhoe yesterday.  What took him a mere few minutes to clear away with his equipment would have taken us weeks armed only with our shovels and dogged determination.  He said we got more snow in this recent storm than he's seen here in four years.

I have to admit, even though it's been bitterly cold (-18 Celsius/0 Fahrenheit), I sure appreciate the brilliant blue skies we enjoy on a regular basis.  Coming from the west coast where the clouds hang heavy and gray and it rains for weeks at a time, it sure is good for the soul.

And more snow to come today and tomorrow. Your mountains are going to get taller my friend! LOL!

If you have time to meet for coffee this week (except today or tomorrow) let me know!

Catherine: I don't mind the snow, much to my surprise, just as long as I'm not trapped in it. We'll arrange something for later in the week, perhaps.

Linda: That's the truth, my friend!

That's a lot of snow, you win, ha ha.

Learning to deal with it is all part of the winter isn't it.

When I lived in Saskatchewan the winters were so cold, but the skies always seemed to be a bright blue ...quite the contrast in colour to the grey one I'm looking at here. Your photos are great!

That is so reaffirming for you to say. About the brilliantly blue skies and the cold. Hubby and I have been chewing on the idea of moving to Central Oregon where there is much more snow, colder winters, but sunshine almost always. I would adore it, but hubby wasn't quite so sure. Hearing you say it's good for the soul is reaffirming for me. I get very, very tired of grey and wet. And mud. We're enjoying cold and frozen now too, and I'm loving it!

Justina: It's pretty though.

Jen: Yay! I knew something good would come of it - although, the winter season isn't over yet, my friend. Your time may come.

My Little Home: Thank you! And, welcome.

C-ingspots: I never thought I'd ever have anything good to say about the winters here, much less find myself enjoying them as much as I have, so far.

I hear your sniffles!! It got below zero here in the Eastern Sierras this past week...we had so much snow and ice on our roof that we also sprung lot's of leaks...had to have it removed and the roofer do some patching...all is dry now but it's still darned cold!!!

PS...Where on the west coast are you from???

Sparkling white crystals and blue sky beats gray and brown any [winter] day.

Chieftess: Oh dear - I hope our roof doesn't suffer the same fate! Glad to hear you're cosy & dry again. The Frenchman and I lived in Vancouver, BC for 25+ years.

June: I'm inclined to agree.

Wow! If we had that much snow here we would say "We got dumped on!" Your neighbor has the right idea with a backhoe:) The color of your winter sky is my favorite blue.

If you have to have that much snow at least the sun is out suing bright and reflecting off it brilliantly. Like you said... It beats cloudy grey winter days for sure.
